Building Economic Independence

REACH for Uganda in partnership with Women’s Microfinance Initiative (WMI) helped to establish a loan hub for women in both Bududa and Namisindwa districts by providing financial contributions, as well as initial leadership support. Both hubs focused on women as the beneficiaries although the whole family gets involved in supporting the businesses, including children and husbands. The impact on their families—especially on the education of their children using their profits earned—has greatly improved the finances and well being of many families who participate. Although REACH provided initial funding for the two hubs, WMI took over as a partner organization and now runs all the affairs of managing the loan program. Each year, I enjoy visiting the women to see the businesses they do and how much their businesses have grown.
